Monday
Marine Biology
Join Dr. Mac, Avenues Science Teacher, and fellow scientists to explore the Hudson River ecosystem and the decline of the Eastern Oyster—an issue affecting New York City and other coastal areas. Using IDEO’s Design Thinking approach, students will analyze how climate change and extreme weather patterns contribute to this issue and investigate sustainable strategies for ecosystem restoration. Throughout the course, students will develop their ability to define complex problems, generate innovative solutions, and evaluate real-world environmental data. Emphasizing collaboration, inquiry, and reflection, this program fosters critical and creative thinking while empowering students to apply scientific knowledge to contemporary ecological challenges.
Tuesday
Digital & Sneaker 3D Design
Students learn digital sneaker design by experimenting with colors, adding creative elements, and creating themed designs inspired by holidays, heritage, and favorite cartoon characters. They also create mini sneaker models using 3D design software, print them, and paint their designs—learning the full process from digital concept to physical prototype. Students will visit stores to learn about store design, brand inspiration, and to share their own creative sneaker and fashion projects.
Wednesday

Stitch Lab: Creative Sewing & Design
In Stitch Lab, students explore the art and craft of sewing while unleashing their creativity. Guided by expert instructors, they learn essential skills by hand and on the sewing machine, experimenting with fabrics, threads, and stitches to bring imaginative projects to life—like mini sneaker pillows and unique accessories. Along the way, students build problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and confidence, all while discovering the joy of designing and making something truly their own.
Friday
Speech & Debate
Learn the art of public speaking and persuasion! Students work in rotating groups and practice their debating skills in a supportive environment, including developing arguments, issuing rebuttals, providing examples, rebuilding their case and summarizing points of view.
